Operation Support Military Golf Lives Military Appreciation Month Year-Round

Non-Profit Organization Dedicated to ‘Reviving the Golf Courses that Revitalize Our Heroes™

May 10, 2018 (JACKSONVILLE, Florida) – Operation Support Military Golf (OSMG) – the non-profit organization which exists to enhance service members’ morale, welfare, and recreation by improving golf courses and associated facilities at 145 base facilities worldwide – invites those who value all that current and former U.S. service members give their country, to back their appreciation with a donation during Military Appreciation Month (May).

As a groundbreaking, global, military supportive, 501(c)(3) non-profit, OSMG’s goal is to provide a $1 million infusion to each military golf facility. Helping increase accessibility for our wounded and aging veterans, reducing golf facilities maintenance costs through modernized equipment, and increasing overall visual enjoyment are just some of the specific benefits from the upgrades.

“Funding donations to OSMG are much-needed, invaluable and will enable service members and their families – past, present and future — to benefit from bolstered morale, wellness and recreation afforded by base golf facilities,” says OSMG Founder Jennifer Poth. “There are 145 golf courses at bases worldwide – 118 stateside – and many are falling into disrepair due to zero dollars being appropriated for their upkeep. OSMG was founded to help fill this funding void. At many bases abroad, the military golf facilities are the only safe and or cost friendly green space available for recreation.”

OSMG is grateful to the groups and companies that support OSMG with in-kind services – American Society of Golf Course Architects, Arnold Palmer Design Company, Golf Course Builders Association of America, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, MacCurrach Golf Course Construction, Sanford Golf Design, and Web.com.

Nonetheless, funds are needed to cover hard costs for, and securing of, required equipment, supplies, manpower, etc.

To donate or learn more about OSMG, visit www.operationsupportmilitarygolf.org, email contact@operation-smg.org, or call (904) 626-4374.

OSMG was created to serve those who have, do and will serve our nation by ensuring their Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) is not forgotten. Positive MWR is an integral component in the well-being and quality of life of our service members and their families.

Military courses are spread throughout Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine bases. OSMG strives to rotate through the services, one base at a time, to equitably support each.

Operation Support Military Golf travels to Washington D.C.

In full support of the great game of golf, Operation Support Military Golf (OSMG) participates in its second WE ARE GOLF event, National Golf Day.

April 24th & 25th 2018 (WASHINGTON, D.C.) – National Golf Day is dedicated to showcasing golf as a wide reaching value to both individual’s physical and mental wellbeing and our countries economy.  Day one consisted of the cleanup and refurbishment of the National Mall with almost 200 volunteers from the golf industry. Day two was twofold, meetings with members of both the House and Senate in regards to the many benefits golf brings to the environment, economy and personal character of individuals that play the game, as well as an OSMG informational set up in the Rayburn Foyer to both introduce OSMG to visitors of National Golf Day and educate the public to the challenging situation military golf finds itself in due to it’s non-appropriated funding.

“We cannot thank Steve Mona, World Golf Foundation, CEO and Peggy Norton, WE ARE GOLF Project Manager enough for the invitation to be a involved in such an import day for golf and their personal support of OSMG’s mission, Reviving the Golf Courses that Revitalize Our Heroes TM.  It’s a privilege to be involved in such an important day for this amazing game, says Jennifer Poth,” OSMG Chairman & CEO.

In addition, with the goal of continuously introducing OSMG, in route to and from D.C., Jennifer and her father Lt. Col. John Poth, USAF Ret. made stops in North Carolina at USAF Seymour Johnson’s Three Eagles Golf Course, Virginia at USA Fort Lee’s Cardinal Golf Club, and South Carolina at USAF Shaw’s Carolina Lakes Golf Club.

“Arnold Palmer Design Company’s assistance is invaluable and will enable service members and their families – past, present and future — to benefit from bolstered morale, wellness and recreation afforded by the Mayport facility,” says OSMG Founder Jennifer Poth. “There are 145 golf courses at bases worldwide – 111 in the U.S. – and many are falling into disrepair due to zero dollars being appropriated for their upkeep.”

In addition to the practice facility refurbishment, the cart barn and on-course restrooms will be replaced. However, funds and / or in-kind service for that work have yet to be secured.

“Brandon’s willingness – and that of his fellow Arnold Palmer Design VP Thad Layton – to support our groundbreaking military non-profit with their generosity, time and talent is appreciated more than we can put in words,” says Poth, who was inspired to found OSMG after the Boston Marathon terrorist bombing. “Mr. Palmer is forever a legend through his actions on and off the golf course and in uniform serving our great nation. To have his company and spirit involved with OSMG is an honor and privilege. We’re hopeful this will motivate others to help our mission.”

Non-Profit Raises Funds for “Reviving the Golf Courses that Revitalize Our Heroes”™

January 15, 2018 (JACKSONVILLE, Florida) – Operation Support Military Golf (OSMG) – the non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance service members’ morale, welfare, and recreation by improving golf courses and associated facilities at bases worldwide – today announces that it has partnered with leading golf industry associations.

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, American Society of Golf Course Architects and Golf Course Builders Association of America have pledged their proud support of OSMG.

OSMG was created to serve those who have, do and will serve our nation by ensuring their Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) is not forgotten. Positive MWR is an integral component in the well-being and quality of life of our service members and their families.

There are 145 military base golf facilities located in 40 states and 11 overseas countries. In many cases, overseas golf courses are service members’ only safe and cost-efficient means of outdoor recreation, relaxation from work stress, and separation from their families.

Stateside military golf courses are provided zero government funding to operate and overseas courses receive minimal funding. They are required to be entirely self-sufficient. OSMG was founded to help fill this “non-essential” items void.

“Having these organizations unite for OSMG shows that they understand how important recreation and wellness programs are for service members’ morale in general, and specifically through golf, with its camaraderie, competition, exercise, and outdoor activity,” says OSMG Founder Jennifer Poth. “Many military base golf courses are falling into great disrepair due to longstanding budget constraints, and OSMG raises funds and in-kind donations for revitalization work that would not otherwise occur.”

Military courses are spread throughout Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine bases. OSMG strives to rotate through the services, one base at a time, to equitably support each. The first revitalization is underway at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Fla., the city where OSMG is based. To date, most support for the renovation has come from in-kind contributions including that of Arnold Palmer Design Company and MacCurrach Golf Construction, Inc.

For more information about OSMG, email contact@operation-smg.org, or call (904) 626-4374.
